Willis is a two-time cancer survivor. In May 2016, she announced that she had stage 3 lobular breast cancer after she got tested when she noticed her inverted right nipple. She got treatment for nine months. Her treatment included a mastectomy of her right breast, chemotherapy, reconstructive surgery, and radiation treatment.

Three and half years later, she got diagnosed with cervical cancer scare, HPV, or human papillomavirus. She got a hysterectomy for precancerous cells in her cervix caused by the HPV virus. She embraced her natural look and did not let physical and emotional strain stop her when she returned to her profession.

She became an advocate for breast cancer awareness and health promotion. In 2022, to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month, she along with healthcare professionals and company seniors conducted the first-ever mammogram van to provide screening for employees.
