Jevon started playing basketball from a very early age and even played for his college. He used to play for his high school from the year 2011 to 2012. After high school, Jevon received scholarship offers from various universities like Akron, Dartmouth, Kent State, Lehigh, Toledo, Valparaiso, University Of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Illions State but Jevon became committed to West Virginia.

Jevon made his name as one of the top defensive players in the Big 12 Conference as the point guard.

During his junior season in the year 2016-2017, Jevon gathered an average of 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.

Following his junior season, Jevon declared for the 2017 NBA draft but he did not hire an agent so, he withdrawn his name from the NBA draft and again decided to return to West Virginia’s basketball team for his senior season. Jevon then became WVU's all-time leader in steals on 30 November 2017. Jevon even became the major conference layer to reach 1500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 steals in a career on 3 March 2018 against Iowa State.

Jevon even earned and was named Academic All-American of the year for Division I men's basketball on 12 March 2018.

In his senior season, Jevon won various postseason awards for his defensive play which includes Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, the NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, and the Lefty Driesell Player of the Year.

During the 2018 NBA Draft, Jevon was selected by Memphis Grizzlies on its second round on 21 June 2018 with an overall 32nd pick. 

Later on 7 July 2019, Memphis Grizzlies traded Jevon to the Phoenix Suns. He signed a 3-year contract with the Phoenix Suns which included an annual average salary of $3,833,333 and a base salary of $3,925,000 as of 2020 and 2021.
