According to the interview of Henry with People Magazine. Henry approached Stacey to go for a soda and to make a quick stop to buy a wedding gift. Stacey denied it at first saying that she is not a gift service but then she changed her mind and the duo went across the streets and had ginger ales.

Within weeks of their cozy date, Stacey moved in with Henry along with her four-year-old son Jed Weitzman. The pair tied the knot in the year 1978 and welcomed two children together. They have a daughter named Zoe Emily Winkler who was born in the year 1980. She was soon later joined by her brother Max Winkler. Max was born on 18 August 1983.

Henry was born on 30 October 1945 on West Side, Manhattan, New York to parents Harry Irving Winker and Ilse Anna Marie. His mother was a homemaker while his father was a lumber import-exporter who emigrated from Berlin to the U.S. in the year 1939 on the eve of World War II. Henry was raised by German Jewish parents with traditions of Conservative Judaism.

As a kid, Henry was considered to be slow, stupid, and was very anxious because of his undiagnosed dyslexia.

Henry attended McBurney School and later gained a BA degree from Emerson College. He gained a degree Master Of Fine Arts from Yale School Of Drama and even earned the degree of Doctor Of Humane Letters from Austin College.
