What Happened With Dugan And The Recording Academy?

Dugan took responsibility as President and CEO of The Recording Academy on August 1, 2019. After 5 months on the job, she was abruptly placed on administrative leave and relieved from her duties. She was accused of bullying by an assistant. She was also accused of seeking $22 million to leave quietly.

Dugan denied all the charges against her and filed a 44-page complaint to the commission. She claimed that the academy retaliated against her for uncovering voting irregularities, corruption, harassment against women, and conflicts of interest among board members. The academy then fired her but the legal battle continued.

More than a year after the to and fro allegations, Dugan and The Recording Academy settled before the case hearings. They kept the terms of their settlement private. Dugan was rumored to have walked away with a confidential and hefty settlement.
